Coming Along In The Studio....

I paint a design directly onto the wax first before carving.

I am working on pieces for Mother's Day and have been playing around with the highly impractical idea of photo rings. The trick will be making these extra waterproof--my lifelong challenge.

  2. Hi Jeanine,
What kind of wax do you use to carve? It's so pretty!

  3. It is Ferris wax which you can get from Contenti or Rio Grande. The green is hard, purple is medium and blue is flexible. The color and quality of the wax is so completely different from the finished metal--sometimes I hate to caste the pieces!!

  4. Hi Jeanine,
I was wondering which jewelry tools you couldn't live without. Do you use a tumbler, flexshaft, etc.? I'd love to know your list of jewelry tool must haves!

  5. The tools I can't live without...My wax tools and files for making my models, pitch pot, my tiny custom chasing tools, and sand paper. The basic tools for hand finishing are the most important. In our studio for the pieces we produce (in small quantities I might add) we rely on the flex shaft, the polishers, and files, etc. We don't use a tumbler.

I always like to say that I am really 'low tech' and use a bucket, some gum and a toothbrush :)
